Suzie

say “we are sick of the camera…put it away.”
Oh yeah. My bro Lawyer K enabled me into a 4th wheel. When I saw it on the Raleigh craigslist he went and got it for me. All together now: Awwww. Apparently the owner of the wheel knew very little about it except that it was part of his father’s possessions. He did remember that his dad was into renovating spinning wheels back in the 70′s or 80′s. He didn’t really care, just wanted it out of his garage. It came with an old book called The Care and Feeding of Spinning Wheels which was VERY useful.
She is a small, old, saxony style wheel. Maybe from Shetland? I have no clue. The flyer is such that it is meant to spin “S” which to me means flax. There is a distaff. The treadle, the footman, the flyer all had evidence of repair but still. This thing is old. The original spindle shaft was present as are the maidens and the wheel and table and screw tensioner. As is the case with so many old wheels, the flyer was inoperable. The former owner had manufactured a new bobbin and flyer but they were either not finished or he was not able to recreate them properly. So Mr. Lady made a new flyer and bobbin. And now it works.
If you have Facebook, I am there. You can see a video. If not, here is a photo of my latest weaving project, some rugs with Crazy As A Loom‘s Solmate Socks
See? I can still manage to warp a loom. It just takes me forever to get it all to the point of weaving! Sorta like my blogging….

She’s very pretty!
Wow. Santa really WAS good to you!
So pretty Alice! Looks just like my antique Saxony! Mine really needs to be used though. Maybe I’ll take it for a spin. Thanks for the nudge
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
Aww is right, what a nice brother and such a beautiful old wheel. Grand new toy for sure. Glad to see you weaving too. I’m pretty slow about getting to my looms these days too.
Have a Happy New Year!
Thanks all! The little gal is a fine spinner. She is double drive only and takes a little getting used to.
Ooh, Alice, that is a FIND. 4th, 5th, 6th wheel – it doesn’t matter. As long as you’re happy. YAY, you. And yay for your sweet brother.
Keep reminding me Kat, it is ok to have lots of toys….
I am very, very jealous.
PATRICK,these wheels are plentiful around here! You can find one!

Can’t believe The Emperor was willing to show his face for the camera, but not me…
